Citizen Of the Year History

The award originated with the Kinsmen Club of Winkler in 1977 and was later sponsored by the Lions Club. The award lay dormant for two years after the Chamber chose to focus on a more business oriented award. The WCF Board of Directors saw the opportunity and need to keep the award alive and worked toward reviving it in 2006, Winkler’s Centennial year. The Winkler Community Foundation continues to recognize an individual each year – giving the community an opportunity to say Thank-you to an individual that has impacted our community in positive ways.
