The Winkler Community Foundation is proud to be the sponsor of the Winkler Citizen of the Year Award. We are recognizing the efforts of an individual who contributes to making the City of Winkler a great place to live, work, play and learn.
This award will continue to recognize volunteerism and good citizenship in our community.
The 2019 Citizen of the Year award was presented to Ruth Reimer. After the loss of her daughter Kaitlyn in 2012, Ruth and her family began to take this tragedy and turn it into a blossoming organization by following Kaitlyn’s dreams of helping other sick children in hospitals. What started as gifting kids with teddy bears and games, quickly grew into what is now known as Katie Cares and a new establishment called Katie’s Cottage, which provides a nearby place to stay for families of hospital patients.
Ruth has decided to donate her Citizen of the Year Choice Grant, which is a total of $1,000, to South Central Cancer Resource.
We all know people that give of themselves because they are passionate about a cause, want to see change happen, want to make a difference, or because they simply care. These individuals have made a difference in our lives and in our community. We need your help to recognize these individuals and say Thank-you for what they have done to make Winkler a better place.
