Pay It Forward May

The message is simple: Do something nice for someone and ask nothing in return other than they do something nice for someone else. Part of the beauty of this initiative is that it doesn’t have to cost a cent.

While we are blessed to live in such amazing communities and schools where so much kind-heartedness happens every day, we hope that people will slow down just a little and recognize when someone does something nice for them. And, then hopefully they will pay that thoughtfulness forward. By doing so, our communities become better places to live, work and play!

Pay it Forward May is a month long campaign initiated by the Winkler Community Foundation and the Morden Area Foundation to encourage good deeds throughout our community.

Pay it Forward is at the core of what we do as a Community Foundation so we thought it would be good to get the entire city involved!

Need some ideas on how to PAY IT FORWARD:

  1. Visit a grandparent or older person you know in a nursing home.
  2. Donate some food to your local food bank.
  3. Tidy up a public space by picking up any garbage you see.
  4. Make a donation to the Winkler Community Foundation so we can invest it into our Community Fund and pay-it-forward to the community year after year.

Sharing PIF stories – Inspiring Others

Spread the word. If the person thanks you and wants to “repay” you (that is, pay it “back”), let them know that what you’d really like is for them to pay it “forward”—you’d like them to do something nice for someone, and ask those people to do something nice for more people. The idea is to consciously increase the kindness in the community.

Even small acts, such as paying for the person coffee in the drive through in the car behind you when you pay for your own, counts. If it makes the world a friendlier place, you succeeded!

We want to say “THANKS” to everyone who participates in #PIFMAY. It is exciting to see and hear so many stories of kindness. From providing coffee break, helping a neighbour, spending time with the elderly, to holding door open or buying someone’s groceries. The list goes on and on. And the impact reaches far beyond what we can measure. From all the stories we heard there were so many more that were not publicly shared. Thank you to the community for participating in Pay It Forward May 2018 and impacting our community in so many positive ways. We encourage the community to continue paying it forward throughout the year.
