Gordon Wiebe Education Fund 2024 Scholarship Recipients

The Winkler Community Foundation celebrates the 45 Gordon Wiebe Education Awards disbursing over $100,000 to young people pursuing post secondary education this fall

This year, we had the opportunity to award 45 Gordon Wiebe Education Awards to young people from Winkler and area, including:

  • 34 Ongoing Education Support Awards
  • 3 Make It a Reality Awards
  • 8 Gordon Wiebe High School Graduate Awards

This year we are granting out over $100,000 in scholarships. This is our 8th year of granting from the Gordon Wiebe Education Fund. Since our first scholarships awarded from the fund in 2017, we have awarded over $776,250 including this year’s scholarships.

Our scholarship recipients are studying at 13 different institutions across Canada and are studying in a broad range of degree programs. Many have plans to return to Winkler to start their career after completing studies.

The Gordon Wiebe Education Awards alleviate the financial pressures that attending university full-time can bring. The Winkler Community Foundation is proud to award these scholarships every year to help equip young people from our community to succeed in their educational pursuits.

The Gordon Wiebe Education Fund was founded with a bequest from the estate of former pharmacist Gordon Wiebe. The purpose of this fund is to support young people from Winkler and surrounding area, who demonstrate commitment to our community, in obtaining higher education.

“This scholarship will ease my financial burden, and it opens up an opportunity to take a 3rd year of college which I was previously unsure about due to cost. Thank you for believing in my potential and for the opportunities this award will bring.” Isaiah Nissley, current OES recipient

“Thank you very much for your gracious funding towards my education. With your generous help you have given me the opportunity to serve the community as a licensed pharmacist starting in 2025.” Michelle Baier, current OES recipient
