24 Hour Giving Challenge-Nov.16

November 1, 2019

The 24 Hour Giving Challenge is an opportunity to talk to people in our community about the Winkler Community Foundation and its impact in our community.

The challenge is an opportunity to grow the general COMMUNITY ENDOWMENT FUND – impacting the community forever. The community fund supports local charities through annual grants. Charities apply for grants annually. These grants allow them to put more energy into the work they do and hopefully spend less time fundraising.

The giving challenge is initiated by the Winnipeg Foundation to support all community foundations. They also provide access to online donations through Endow Manitoba website at no charge and prepare all receipting for gifts made during the giving challenge. They are a huge support to the community foundations in Manitoba.

These stretching contributions inspired the Winkler Community Foundation. If we can get $2 for every $5 why not see if we can stretch donations even further and triple the match.

Stretching contributions:

City of Winkler, Access Credit Union, Triple E, Kroeker Farms, Protec, Southern Potato, Winkler Concrete, Goldenwest Radio, Elias Wood Work,  The Winkler Auto Dealers

This means a gift of $5 becomes $15. (for the first $10,000 collected)

We are thankful for the support in our community. Many of our donors wait for this event annually to give knowing the impact of their gift will be stretched. The 24 hour giving challenge also brings in awareness as well as new donors.

The greatest part is that each gift keeps on giving. It impacts the community annually through our grants program and will continue to impact the community FOREVER.

 TOTAL COMMUNITY GRANTS                     $16,500

The 24 Hour Giving Challenges directly impacts the Community Fund allowing more general community grants to be distributed.

WES YIP give back

Winkler Elementary School ran Youth in Philanthropy as an Exploratory program during the 2020-21 school year. They had a group of grade 8 students participate. As a part of the program, the students ran a Valentine’s Day themed fundraiser by selling boxes of smarties. They felt the smarties could share some “joy” during a COVID Valentine’s. The girls designed to and from tags for the students to send the smarties to friends aor siblings in the school. The money raised during the YIP exploratory program was matched by the Winkler Community Foundation. Thanks to the student’s efforts and the Foundation’s match, a grant of $669 was awarded to Gateway Resources. This grant has been designated for Gateway’s Life Skills Program to add tactile and sensory box resources. “We decided to raise money for the Gateway Life Skills Program because we believe everyone should have an equal opportunity to contribute to the community and do what they love!” – Karli, BYNN and Bria grade 8 YIP students from WES.   The Winkler Community Foundation loves seeing students engage in philanthropic activities. We were happy to see WES find a creative way to still teach young students about philanthropy and positively impact […]
