Created in memory of Evan Thomas, this fund honours his love of hockey and the strong sense of connection and community the sport provides. Each year, the fund supports two new minor hockey players by covering registration and tournament fees, helping ensure more children have access to the many benefits of team sport.
The application is simple and designed to understand each family’s situation. It asks for:
- Basic player and family contact information
- Hockey experience and registration status (Priority is someone that has not played Minor Hockey previously.)
- Household and financial context
- A short written response describing why support is needed and how it would impact the player
Applicants are encouraged to apply for Kidsport. Priority will go to approved KIDSPORT applicants that apply before the August deadline. Please note: It is not a requirement to be a KIDSPORT recipient to receive this funding.
- If the recipient is approved by Kidsport, in addition to receiving funding to cover their registration, they will receive up to $300 towards sport equipment. The Winkler Community Foundation, Winkler Minor Hockey Association and Time Out Sports Excellence are working together in effort to support young athletes.
